When a billionaire entrepreneur launches his favorite car into space, people are bound to be curious about the automobile.
“I love the thought of a car drifting apparently endlessly through space and perhaps being discovered by an alien race millions of years in the future,” Elon Musk, the founder and brains behind Tesla Inc., a manufacturer of all-electric cars, said recently on social media.

Musk's cherry red 2008 Tesla Roadster is part of the payload of Tuesday's launch of the much-publicized Falcon Heavy rocket from the Kennedy Space Center. Musk is also founder of SpaceX which is launching the Falcon rocket.
Other automobile manufacturers also have toyed with the idea of a launching a car into space but they had one drawback. They didn't own a rocket manufacturing business like Musk does.

Cost: The base price for a Tesla Roadster will set you back at least $110,000. That's about the cost of five new Honda Civics.
