Tesla Inc (TSLA) Introduces "Chill" Acceleration Mode For Casual Drivers

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has built its reputation as a make of luxury sedans with supercar-like performance, but not everyone is interested in going from 0-60 in 2.3 seconds.

For users that don’t have the need for speed, and want a safer, smoother start when they hit the gas, Tesla announced a new software update to address the issue. Electrek has more details:

The automaker has added a feature to give the option to soften the crazy acceleration of the Model S and Model X and it also pushed another requested feature.
Tesla appropriately called the new feature “Chill: a new acceleration”.
It’s a significant change from the automaker’s previous modes called Insane and Ludicrous, which are more geared toward performance.

The company describes the new mode as follows: “You can now choose between two acceleration options in your vehicle: Chill and Standard. Chill makes acceleration more gradual – ideal for smoother driving and a gentler ride for your passengers.”

Another big update involves automatically adjusting the steering wheel and driver’s seat to make entering and exiting the vehicle easier. “Starting in this release, you can get in and out of the driver’s seat more easily. When you park, the steering wheel and driver’s seat will automatically adjust for an easier exit. After you return to the vehicle, they automatically adjust back to the recent driving profile when you step on the brake. Or, if your keyfob is linked to your driver profile, the seat and steering wheel adjust accordingly. As always, you can restore your profile by selecting it from the list,” the company said in its release notes.

Tesla Inc shares rose $2.74 (+0.90%) in premarket trading Monday. Year-to-date, TSLA has gained 43.24%, versus a 17.27% rise in the benchmark S&P 500 index during the same period.

TSLA currently has a StockNews.com POWR Rating of B (Buy), and is ranked #6 of 24 stocks in the Auto & Vehicle Manufacturers category.
